A family heirloom has moved on
I’ve been cleaning out my mom’s house at a breakneck pace with the closing of the sale approaching with less than a week to go. One of the pieces I was worried about was my dad’s toolbox. My dad loved working on cars. The toolbox was bought in the 1960s. He died in 1973 and it passed on eventually to my brother who also loved working on cars. My brother passed away in 2016 and it’s been sitting in my mom’s garage ever since.
Yesterday I put an add on Craigslist listing it for free. Honestly I wasn’t concerned about money, I just needed to get it gone. I have no room at my house nor do I have any interest or inclination on working on cars or much else that requires tools (outside of the usual homeowner stuff). The guy who ended up coming to get it responded first in less than 10 minutes of the posting going up. It was a retired guy named Frank. He showed up exactly when he said he would and was really, really nice. He needed a toolbox for his own garage because he links to tinker on stuff.
(Side note: also got a response later from an airplane mechanic at O’Hare Airport who wanted it because he needed another toolbox and he loved the vintage look).
Very happy it’s going to someone who will get use out of it. I think my brother and my dad would have liked that.
